The Maelstrom ~ “Aurora” Batch #2 bottling is now complete! The complexities of the weather and waves of this past spring-into-summer, brought with them a fantastic range of flavors and a mellowed warmth during their time on Lake Michigan.

When we strapped the casks onto the Kinn’s fleet, that night a spectacular display of Aurora Borealis shot across the Great Lakes and we believed a bit of magic came with it as well. A cool raucous spring, then blended into early hot spells with some wild wave action. And on 36 to 40 foot vessels, the turbulence inside these casks is incredible. There’s an art and science to harnessing such violent forces and once again it’s now captured inside the bottles.

Bottled at 86.4 proof, soon they’ll be heading to our distributors on their way to market and to you.

The bourbon word is starting to take notice of what is happening out here on Lake Michigan.

And so we wait.

As the storm front advances and the holiday rush peaks, the First Batch of The Maelstrom awaits pickup and transit to retail stores, bars, and restaurants across Wisconsin, and then to Minnesota and South Carolina. We Lament the fact that we cannot get it to the public before Christmas, but we celebrate that what is in the bottle is so excellent we know you will also feel it is worth the wait.
